Digões

Like the previous series, these are drawings from memory. Digões = bums. Street people, drawn from memory. Used pulp paper, with a white gouache background and black oil pen for drawing. Is pulp paper is a fragile support for a drawing? Why not fancy high grade german or french paper.I know. Only bulk, pulp. Life is cheap in Brazil. São Paulo could be an exception: 17 to 21 million people in one town. One can be treated as dirt. But we all get along. It looks like it. Brazilians don't like to be seen as poor. There are no relevant racial issues.Just try to look wealthy. The series started with both horizontal and vertical formats. I feel the horizontal drawings are more pertinent to the subject, as they place him in his environment. All drawings are 22x32cm, gouache, oil pen on pulp paper.
